Take care of your skin with Dr. Jeffrey Dover and Alison Raffaele

Skin Alison Raffaele

Skin Alison Raffaele is quickly becoming a favorite. I love the foundation and concealer that I've been using from her line, her products are all excellent quality. Just perfect for summer is the tinted moisturizer with an SPF 15 available in five shades.

This moisturizer contains green tea and vitamins A, C and E along with aloe and seaweed extract to firm up the skin. This is very lightweight and absorbs quickly. When I'm hanging out at home, I slather it all over my face. When I go out, I dot some around my eyes where those pesky fine lines have settled. Check out Skin Alison Raffaele's website here for more information and products. You will adore this brand!

Skin Effects

Skin Effects by Dr. Jeffrey Dover offers an SPF 30 to protect against those drying, damaging rays from the sun. I know I should wear a sunscreen every day but most days I forget. I'm trying to at least slather some on my hands and chest before I go outside because those are two spots that show aging quickly.

This one is nice because it's affordable at under eleven dollars for a big bottle. It contains vitamins A, C and E and will moisturize skin for twelve hours! Sun Effects is gentle, hypoallergenic and won't clog pores. I'm keeping this on my vanity so I won't have any excuses not to wear sunscreen! Yes I'm always pale but I hope to look forty when I'm fifty.

ME Bath

treats for the tub!

Do you want to make your bath or shower extra special? Then head to ME! Bath and check out their Bath Ice Cream. I tested the Grace and Beauty Bath Ice Cream, a special edition for Mother's Day. This luxurious scent features Heirloom Roses; your bathroom will be transformed into what smells like a rose garden after you drop one of these magic bath bombs into your tub.

Your bathwater will turn pink, delicate rose petals will be released from the bubbling ice cream as you relax. When you get out of the tub, you cannot help but notice that not only does your skin smell like roses, but your body is super soft!

The Shower Sherbert comes in a 16 ounce tub and looks like something you might pull out of your freezer for a treat. Don't mistake this for Ben and Jerry's however. Shower Sherbert contains jojoba oil and vitamin E to nourish the skin. I was lucky to test the Hawaiian Lei "flavor". The color is bright blue with a slightly gritty texture which is very pleasant, it sloughs off the dry skin replacing it with moisture. Using a palm sized amount, I took my bath fluff and spread it all over my body, my skin was softer and carried the tropical scent of plumeria and freesia, an intoxicating combination. I need some Body Icing to complete my experience.

This company was started back in 2002. Why haven't I heard of them sooner? I'm excited to share this with you, especially in time for Mother's Day. Treat mom or yourself to a non-calorie "ice cream" treat. I've got my eye on the Ice Cream pedicure, hint hint.

Stella McCartney

This is a limited edition scent from Stella McCartney named Sheer. Check out the beautiful bottle- you will want to display this pink and silver floral etched glass bottle where you can admire the butterflies and hummingbirds. Sheer eau de toilette combines green apple, clean lemon, celestial rose with a hint of amber for a scent that will no doubt inspire friends to ask, "What are you wearing?"

Stella is known for being an environmentalist, vegetarian and a socially conscious girl, so it makes sense that her luxury skin care line is 100% organic and does not contain anything that's harsh to the skin or environment.

I had the opporuntity to try the calming Floral Toning Water which carries a heavenly scent, making me want to use it as a cologne rather than toner! The toner contains green tea and linden blossom extracts working well in conjunction with the Five Benefits Moisturizing Cream.

The cream contains five potent organic extracts to firm, moisturize and feed the delicate facial skin. Grapeseed oil, Mallow extract, Lindseed Oil, Musk Rose, Green Tea, Soybean Oil, Sweet Orange extract... the list of ingredients reads more like a recipe for an organic cake than a face cream! The cream boasts that it will nourish, protect, hydrate, and increase firmness of the skin.

It is quickly absorbed and while I haven't seen any huge differences in my skin-yet- I really do like the light smell and consistency of the cream and look forward to continued use.

Lumene Vitamin and Radiant C Beauty Drops

These nifty little pellets house powerful skin smoothing ingredients that leaves skin looking healthy and yes, radiant.

Lumene Beauty Drops will "soften skin, even out fine lines and brighten skin tone." It is designed to use over the course of 28 days. I began using them two nights ago and already like the results. After washing my face, I twist off the top of the capsule and apply the silky textured lotion to my skin. This reminds me of a Primer, smoothing out the skintone and making my face look nearly perfect. I love the consistency of these drops, so soft and silky.

Arctic Cloudberry Seed Oil, a vital component used in the Beauty Drops, is rich in Vitamin C which promotes "rejuvination of skin by boosing its protective layer." Vitamin C also moisturizes, clarifies and assists with collagen production. What exactly is an Arctic Cloudberry? It's a berry from the Nordic wetlands that is one of the most nutritious of all berries. The oil in the berries contain essential fatty acids, antioxidants, among other skin protecting nutrients. Yum, I'd like to have a nice big bowl full of these berries to snack on!

If you have never tried Lumene, I suggest you give this brand a whirl. Sold at CVS pharmacies, this brand uses natural ingredients in their products. I have to warn you though, the Beauty Drops are really addiciting!

Kinky Curly

I tried your Spiral Spritz yesterday on my hair which tends to frizz easily. I was surprised at how nice the spray smells and was happy to see the all natural ingredients found in it.

My hair ended up being silky and there was not a single hair that didn't lay flat and smooth. I didn't use all that much but saw immediate results! It looked great, definitely a good hair day.

At night I used Knot Today on my daughter's wavy hair after her bath. Her hair tends to look like a bird's nest in the back, full of wispy knots that are nearly impossible to get out. With Knot Today, I was able to easily work through those messy knots with my wide toothed comb and her hair did not get tangled all night or day. I have tried countless products for her labyrinth of snarls and this works better than anything!

Your website is easy to use and explains all the products simply. What I like best about the products you offer is that everything is natural and contains not a drop of drying alcohol. Of course, the fact that they work is another reason I like them!

Keep up the awesome work!

NYX Cosmetics

NYX Cosmetics is named after the ancient Greek goddess of the night, Nyx!

NYX Cosmetics offers an amazing array of makeup at prices everyone can afford. Stroll into your neighborhood drugstore or beauty supply and check out NYX products. Every single shade, hue and tint is represented by nail polishes, eye shadows, liners and more.

NYX is sold all over the world and makeup artists love the color selection and quality of these products. It was started by a girl named Toni Ko who started with an idea to make simple makeup at prices every glamour girl could afford. Now she is running a multi-million dollar company with shops carrying her products in places like Australia, Japan, England and the United States.

I was able to try a few of their newest products and here's what I found:
Rouge Cream Blush in Hot Pink will give your cheeks quite a flush! This product is super pink- almost intimidating- in the compact but can be applied with a light hand for a pretty pink cheek. I really like a nice pinky glow in my cheeks, just like I've been ice skating or playing in the snow which in Southern California, doesnt happen too often.

Round Lipstick in Narcissus is another bright pink shade but dont worry that its too extreme! The beauty of this color is that it can be applied lightly and covered with gloss resulting in a pale pink or you can apply it with a heavier hand for an opaque look. This lipstick is very smooth, moisturizing and creamy.

Tinted Lipspa is a balm that soothes chapped winter lips. This product contains oils with anti-oxidant benefits to keep lips looking kissable. Soft and light on the lips, this product comes in ten shades. Once you apply it, you will forget its there. Its not glossy, sticky or heavy on the lips.

I love the nail polishes from NYX. There is such an enormous choice of color, it's nearly impossible to pick just one! My favorite shade for finger nails is a color called Flash. It's a neutral dusty pink. For toes, my choice is Blood, an aptly named shade because it's very dark red! Its dramatic for open toed sandals, flip flops and other springy footwear.

Here is the website to learn more or to find where this fun brand is sold.

Matrix Haircare

Logics Color DNA System

Matrix has a line of haircare for you, no matter what your hair type. Biolage has long been a favorite of mine because it smells so good and it leaves my hair soft and shiny. Biolage Volumatherapie will give your limp locks a boost, plumping the locks and leaving hair shiny.
Use this bodifying gel to pump up the volume in flat, limp hair!

After you have gotten your hair big and full, you can use the Shielding Shine Mist. If you blow out your hair, you will want to seal in the shine. A spritz or two on the ends of hair will eliminate frizz especially if you have hair like mine- dry and color treated. This color preserving product contains UV filters and Sunflower Oil.

Every so often when my hair is in need of a trim and my tresses are looking worn down and beat, I pop open a Biolage Volumatherpaie Cera-Repair tube. It's an in- home maintenence product that can be used once a week to strengthen and repair hair. I leave this in for a while then rinse out and let my hair air dry. Instantly my hair is softer and in much better shape.

I love the Vavoom product line! It's my favorite because I enjoy having huge hair like a true Jersey girl. The new hairspray, Extra Full Freezing Spray is an aerosol can that shoots out light hairspray that locks your style in a firm hold. I only want to spray my hair once after I finish styling it and then dont want to retouch it. The Vavoom spray makes your hair stay put
in sunshine, wind and humidity. This product also includes UV protection.

This was my first experience trying the Logics line. This shampoo smells wonderful, it's very gentle and protects color treated hair with various seals and polishes. The Shaping Mousse adds body and lightly conditions the hair. This line of haircare is perfect for those who have color treated hair and want to preserve that salon brightness and shine which does tend to fade.

Jumping for Joy

I am so thankful that my biopsy came back negative for cancer. YAY! I was really expecting the surgeon to tell me that I had breast cancer, I was. Mentally, I was prepared to hear those words from his lips. When he told me that everything was okay, I was speechless.

When I arrived home, the first call I made was to our local breast cancer support center to offer my time as a volunteer. I hope to help those women for whom breast cancer is all too real. How can I inspire? I can't wait to make a difference in some way.

Thanks for the prayers and support- please stay up on your health, do your exams and dont be shy about getting a mammogram. Just treat yourself to luxurious cosmetics or spa products when it's over and it won't seem that bad at all.

Stila Summer Collection 2007

Stila Summer 2007 Collection

Every season Stila comes out with fabulous colors and palettes that are consistantly both high quality and flattering. Grab your sand toys and beach towels because Stila has a collection that will make you beach ready in a flash.

I love the Lip Glazes in shades of Daiquiri (gold-pink) and Pina Colada gold with silver shimmer) and Spiced Rum (bronze with gold). These shiny lip glosses taste and smell as good as you would imagine. Plus they give your lips deliciously high shine.

Stila had this fabulous Dry Oil Sun-Shimmer spray that is not heavy or oily. Simply spray a bit on to give your skin a sun-kissed glow. As I have mentioned before, I don't sit in the sun or try to get tan so I must rely on products like this to give my skin a summery glow. This spray is made with moisturizing ingredients like macademia and kukui nut oils. It has a nice, subtle scent.

The eye shadow trios are almost to pretty to use, each one features a "pressed in exotic sun dial design." There is a color for base, crease and liner all in one gorgeous compact. The design is nearly too nice to use.

Bronzing Powder with an spf 15, what a smart idea. Get your sun protection with this powder and give yourself a tan as well. Sunshine not required! Spring is the time of year when I switch from using pink or peachy blush and start using bronzing powder. I love to use my Convertible Color on my cheeks as a base color then my color stays strong all day.
Last but not least is the Multi-Effect Mascara. The curved brush gives your lashes a firm coat of color and makes lashes appear thicker, even adding curl! I apply two to three coats and my lashes look party ready in minutes. Non-irritating, odor free and easy to wash off with soap and water or makeup remover.

I am wondering what Stila will unveil for Fall 2007, they always have something good up their sleeves. It would be so much fun to design a line of autumn cosmetics! Stila is available at the best stores such as Sephora and select Bloomingdales.

Julie Hewett

I could probably go on and on about Julie Hewett and her many accomplishments. She is a enormously successful movie makeup artist as well as the creator of the Julie Hewett line of high- end cosmetics. Her line evokes an elegant glamour which was so ripe back in the days of Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Greta Garbo. Those ladies knew how to dress up and be sophisticated. Julie has made up the faces of practically every celebrity including but not limited to Liv Tyler, Annette Bening, Hilary Swank and Mandy Moore. All of them classy in my book.

When I woke up this morning, I needed a boost. I felt drab and not very attractive. I pulled out my Julie Hewett makeup and only using her products, I ended up being quite the glamour girl! Hours later, everything is still in place. I really did feel better after a shower, clean hair and Julie Hewett cosmetics.

The Bud of Rose powder box is at first glance, bright. I was nevous that I might end up with the dreaded clown cheeks but I was relieved that this burst of spring color is a lovely pink shade that woke up my tired skin. Now I absolutely want to try the Pure Persian Rosewater and rose scented mascara.

The Soiree Palette contains four pressed eyeshadows that are ultra soft and silky. I used an angled brush to apply the black color to my lash line instead of eyeliner. All the colors are super blendable, the thin palette is easy to carry around with you for touch ups too. The colors include Remy- a light gold, Lucca- nude, Terra- bronze and Black Chandelier.

When Julie was on the set of the film Pearl Harbor, she was inspired to develop a line of red lipsticks that every woman could wear. If you have ever tried to find a good red, then you know it's a challenge. The Noir Collection was invented on the set right alongside Kate Beckinsdale. Everyone should have a classic red in her makeup kit! Julie uses a Camellia oil base which creates a natural texture, then adds rosebud and orange blossom oil to make the lipstick smell heavenly. The result is the ideal lipstick, perfect for everyday or special occasions. I want to be bold and wear signature red like Marilyn all the time, even when I'm only running to the store.
I tried Gem Noir described as "rosy cheeks in the snow" and my lips looked beautiful! I will be keeping this close at hand along with a strip of false eyelashes for the ultimate glam look.

Julie's Icons of Beauty line recently added the shade called Thandie, after actress Thandie Newton. I'd love a shade named after me, Cindy. It would be pale pink with a shimmery tint and lots of shine, but I digress! Thandie is a reddish-bronze hue. The lipstick is creamy and smells gorgeous.

I think you will really like Julie Hewett's line of cosmetics. I often read about her products in magazines and am happy to test them and report back to you, I love them! If I had a line of cosmetics, it would be very smiliar to Julie Hewett's, full of old fashioned beauty and glamour.

Slowly but surely...

It's been quite an interesting ride, these last few months! I had my first novel published, traveled to the Panama Canal and have been through the ups and downs of testing for cancer!

You read about my saga (Love Your Jugs, below) - thank you for the kind words and thoughts and prayers. I felt them with me in the hospital where I was so scared and nervous. Imagine for a second that you might have cancer and what that would mean to you and your family. It's frightening. I think fear of the unknown is almost worse than knowing! The waiting is hard because I am a person who likes things NOW!

I've been through this and this. Followed by this. And then lastly, on Friday, I went into the hosipital for a Breast Biopsy with a Wire Localization. I hear the results tomorrow. I have to keep my hands busy so I don't pick up the phone and call the surgeon's office a million times. I think I'm going to be okay no matter what the results are.

Nick Chavez

Nick Chavez is a hair styling maverick. Not only does he style the world's most glamorous tresses but has built an empire based on his love of styling hair and making women look fabulous.

I was lucky to sample two items from his line, the Everyday Shampoo and the Volumizing Flocker. The shampoo is super gentle and has a light, clean scent. It lathers up well and rinses out completely. It's a nice shampoo to use between heavier products. The Volumizing Flocker is a must have. You know I just love anything that's going to make my hair huge. This product is very airy and light, like a mousse but with even more air. You apply it to wet or dry hair and gives instant oomph!

Nick's products are sold on QVC. Because I liked what I tried, I would definitely try more of this brand. I'm especially interested in the Plump N' Thick line.

SuperSmile Whitening Gum

When I went on vacation, I tried not packing a lot of things. I always overpack. I left behind my SuperSmile toothpaste because I feared if my luggage got lost, I didn't want to lose my special toothpaste. I also left my Lucky jeans and True Religions home for the same reason. I know, I know. Silly, isn't it?

When I got home, it was so nice to come back to brushing my teeth with SuperSmile and using my portable mouthwash packets. I noticed my teeth looked brighter and undoubtedly whiter when I started using SuperSmile again. It works, I promise.

Now my beloved brand has a new product on the market: SuperSmile gum! You can get whiter teeth on the go, where ever you are. These little pellets are minty but not overpowering. You teeth feel just brushed and you don't have to worry, if you are prone to do so, about coffee, tea or cola staining your teeth. No more drinking coffee through a straw, I'm talking to you, Ryan Seacrest!

You can learn more about SuperSmile here and be on the lookout because the gum will be available soon!

Spring Cleaning

Clean Warm Cotton
and Lather

Clean has long been a favorite of every celebrity from Cameron Diaz to Halle Berry to Charlize Theron. Beauty editors of nearly every magazine on the market love these fresh fragrances. I first took notice of this scent several years ago. I went to Sephora, tested the perfume and couldn't stop thinking about it the whole way home. Finally I bought myself a bottle and have been a fan ever since.

Clean Perfume is adding two scents to their expanding list, right in time for spring. What better way to bring in the new season than with a clean, pure scent that inspires you to shed the heavy winter layers?

Clean Warm Cotton reminds me of blissfully clean, sun kissed laundry. I love that smell of clean warm clothes taking a tumble in the dryer or being line dried outside. This perfume combines citrus, lilac and jasmine with amber and musk. You will want to wear this all day long then spray your sheets and pillows at night!

Just what you would expect from Clean Lather, an out of the shower aroma. You know it- that sudsy scent that's still fresh on your damp skin when you get out of the shower. Clean captures that very smell with Lather, a combination of lemon, orange and florals, with a hint of woods and musk.

Clean offers lots and lots of different "non" perfume scents. I've tried almost all of them and they are addicting. I want to try the Hair Fragrance next! Visit their website to learn more about their perfumes, lotions, linen sprays and candles.

CLEO body cream

CLEO Bathfoam Cream

YUM. You will love these ultra nourishing, deliciously scented products from CLEO, an Italian brand that just landed in the US. These creamy bath and body products are made with yogurt and smell so good that I cannot stop raving about them. My dry winter skin is super moisturized from the Body Cream which is light and fast absorbing.
I poured a bit of the Bathfoam Cream in my kids bath and wow!- intoxicating bubbles everywhere! The kids came out of their bath with warm, soft skin and they smelled so good. When I tucked them into bed I knew they would drift off into sweet dreamland!
This morning I used the Shower Cream and feel very pampered. I used just a bit on one of my fluffy shower puffs and reveled in the scented lather. These products remind me of Aquolina's PinkSugar.
If you are looking for affordable products that moisturize, nourish and smell heavenly, give CLEO a try. Besides bath/shower cream and lotion, they offer bar and liquid soaps. You can read more or place an order at

Avon, Eyes and Lips

Avon Anew Alternative Intensive Eye Cream

I am all over any product that will reduce fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the delicate eye area. I'm sure I've told you before how hyper-aware I am about wrinkles and aging skin. I pat eye cream on with the fervor of a religious zealot twice a day. I am looking high and low for the best eye products on the market and here is a good one, Anew Alternative Intensive Eye Cream.

This cream is ultra light, gentle and non-irritating. It promises to "attack the major signs of dark circles and treat the age-related conditions that can make them look worse." I find this cream to be soothing and absorbs quickly which is perfect for under my concealer. I am checking out the Anew Intensive Age Treatment right now.

Avon Plump & Smooth

Who doesn't want smooth, pouty lips? With this nifty invention from Avon, you can plump your lips and give them a treatment for a very kissable mouth. Once I figured out exactly how to use this dual- sided magic wand, I discovered that it's a keeper.

The smooth side will create a lineless palette for color or gloss, you can use it around the lip area or on the lips as I did. The plump side will make your lips softer, fuller and healthier. As we age lips shrink, its a scientific fact. So add "lip health" to your list of facial concerns and be sure to pamper your lips. Each night I apply the balm side of this duo to keep my lips looking exactly like Angelina Jolie's famous pucker.

For more information and additional products, please look at Avon's website.

Luv your jugs

So imagine that one day you are in the shower and you are using your favorite Philosophy Amazing Grace shower gel and everything is great and suddenly you are drawn to check for breast lumps for some reason. And you find one.

You go to the doctor and because breast cancer runs rampant in your mothers side of the family, there is no time wasted in getting you in for a mammogram and ultra sound. The techician doesnt see anything out of the ordinary so you relax a little. It's Thanksgiving and Christmas and breast cancer would really cramp your holiday style so you forget the lump. Sort of.

Then you go for a yearly physical and the doctor informs you that since the lump is still there, you should really have it biopsied. Because you aren't in the mood to deal, you blow it off. Until the dr. calls your house and tells you that you must go in and get that lump taken care of. Now.
Long story short, you are in the hospital, having an ultra-sound guided needle biopsy and the radiologist tells you that something looks suspicious and its not even the lump that you are in there for. You go for your results expecting everything to be A-okay, well not really because you've got that nagging feeling that something is amiss.

You learn, as you are sitting in his cold office, that the pathologist has determined that there is cause for concern and there is something wrong and your cells are not healthy and it very well could be malignant. Surgery is scheduled and you freak out because you have no control over whats going on or whats growing in your body.

Because you are curious and an alarmist and need to learn everything, you hop onto the internet and practically diagnose yourself and start wondering if you husband will find a new wife if you die and wonder if your kids will remember you.

I'm awaiting my surgery which is way more involved than I would like it to be. I go in on Friday early, early morning and have to have a chunk taken out of my breast. The postings here have been few and far between because I have a lot on my mind and I've been spending time on this site here.

I encourage you to take a moment and learn more because who knows what's growing in your body? Check it out, please. Do this for yourself.

Ojon Animated Styling Cream and Leave-In Glossing Cream are two products that will nourish your hair, especially if you are like me and not only color your hair but use heat-styling too. You must treat and protect your hair to keep it looking glamorous and healthy.

Ojon Shine and Protect Leave In Glossing Cream takes away the frizz and poofiness and leaves you with smooth, healthy hair. It smells delicious too. A tiny bit goes a long, long way. I only use a dime sized amount, rub it between my hands and smooth the ends. This product contains sweet almond oil, wheat germ, vitamin E.

Ojon Animated Styling Cream will add body to your hair. As with the above product, a little goes along way of this wonderful cream! For my shoulder length hair, I only need a small amout to thicken up my tresses. I applied a small amount to the roots of my hair and noticed right away that my hair was thicker! This product will fight the frizz, add fullness, give your hair volume and protect from UV damage.

You will find palm nut oil, bamboo extract, macadamia and jojoba oil among other natural goodness in the styling cream. Ojon products use natural ingredients and a portion of the sales go to the Miskito Indian tribes and help preserve the rainforests.

I found several items on the site that I would love to check out including The Hair Thickening Kit and the Plump and Hold Root Lifting Spray. There is an interesting story behind the brand of Ojon, click here to go to the website and learn more. This product is sold at high end shops and spas.
