Charity of the Week, Heifer International

The Charity of the Week I chose is Heifer International. I love the mission of the organization, Ending Hunger- Caring for the Earth. They provide livestock for people who otherwise would go hungry.

Today, millions of people who were once hungry will be nourished by milk, eggs and fresh vegetables. Families who for generations knew only poverty will be building new homes and starting businesses. Children who once headed out to the fields to do backbreaking work will be heading into schoolrooms to learn to read. And people who never thought they’d be in a position to help someone else will be experiencing the joy of charitable giving. How is this possible?
With Heifer’s proven approach – almost 60 years in the making – to helping people obtain a sustainable source of food and income.

There are so many ways to help from big financial contributions to small ones. You can volunteer time, fund a project, send livestock to people in need via the Meaningful Gifts page. Someday I hope to roll up my sleeves, board a plane and physically reach out to those I can help. For now, projects like Heifer gives us the opportunity to pitch in from our homes and truly make a difference in the world.
