Happy Holidays!

I am taking two weeks off to spend time with my family and do some traveling. I was hoping to update today but my day has been a real whirlwind of packing and errends! I will have some wonderful things to write about when I return to the computer.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!

By Terry, Peace and Glow

I have been dying, just dying to try products from the exclusive ByTerry line. Finally, I got a chance to test something, the Peace and Glow Fresh Effect Skin Roll On. Since I opened it up only a few days ago, its the very first thing I reach for in the early mornings. Nothing can eliminate the enormous under eye bags and puffiness from my little crinkled face like this can!

This magic potion has a cool little roller ball that you swipe around the eye area, encouraging drainage via micro circulation. Says ByTerry: "Relaxes skin tissues and softens signs of fatigue, having an instant anti-stress effect. Active ingredients include hydro-calming extracts, antioxidants and regenerating proteins."

I spent all kinds of time looking high and low for this product so I could give you a link. It's only available at Barney's, click here. And OMG! Look at everything that ByTerry has to offer. I want one of everything!

Jaqua Beauty

If you are a gloss nut like I am then you will love the Lip Frosting Trio from Jaqua Beauty. Not only do these have a slightly sheer color but they give lips a high shine and impart a sweet scent.
Colors include Cocoa Buttercream Frosting, Pink Buttercream Frosting and Raspberry Buttercream Frosting. I love the pink shade but I can't stop licking my lips!

Vickery and Clarke

Vickery and Clarke Natural Apothecary line offers a complete line of bath and body care products at CVS. This brand is a CVS pharmacy exclusive and worth your time to peruse. All products use simple and natural ingredients, affordably priced and is the only natural apothecary line sold at a U.S. pharmacy. I like the fact that Vickery and Clarke (named after two female pharmacists in England during the 1800s) do not put any paraben or sodium lauryl sulfates in their products. They use ingredients like ginger, eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender, vanilla and shea butter.

I got the chance to test several items and here are my thoughts:

The Detoxifying Bath Soak, pictured above, smells so good that I want to dive into the jar. Ginger is a natural detoxifying agent. There is nothing like a warm bath with a generous scoop of these crystals.

Stress Relieving Pulse Point Balm contains essential oils that help eliminate tension. I dab this on my wrists, breathe deep and close my eyes for a minute or two to ease the stress. Incidentally, this was the first product I tried.

Foot and Leg Spray is the bomb for tired feet! When you've been on your feet all day and feel achy, a spritz of this instantly cools and rejuvenates. My feet feel so much better after this cool treat.

Intensive Lip Treatment should be kept in close reach at all times, especially during the cold months. Provides hydration and a minty essence.

Ultra Rich Eye Cream is going in my purse! I always notice how very dry the eye area is, usually when I'm driving and I glance in the rear view mirror then recoil in horror! This contains chamomile and vitamins A and E.

Face Cleanser, Face Tonic and Anti-Oxidant Face Serum these products contain such ingredients as aloe vera, cucumber, geranium, vitamins A and E, delivering nutrients right to the skin. These items didn't bother my sensitive skin and felt wonderful on my face. They come in normal to dry skin formula or normal to oily formula.

Cold and Sinus Soak is under my sink, readily available during this cold and flu season! I love the eucalyptus/peppermint scent. I could use this as a little aromatherapy during the day. Ideal for my kids who hate cold medicines, rubs and everything else that I try to make them feel good. No one can resist a soak in the tub.

Ginger and Clementine Body Lotion smells almost good enough to eat. Provides lots of hydration to dry skin, this imparts a clean citrus scent.

I love finding new products, especially when they are made of nearly 100% natural ingredients. This line is fantastic. My natural beauty loving friends will enjoy discovering Vickery and Clarke. You can find more information and products at CVS online.

Daily Dollfaces

Here's something I'd wear. Jessica Alba looks cute and comfy. This is how you go out of the house looking presentable, not sloppy. (see jessica simpson below)

Very nice, I approve of the dress and shoes. Eva Longoria has grown on me this season. I like her on Desperate Housewives and her tv daughters crack me up.

Ummmm..is Jennifer Lopez going for shock value here? I hope she remember her double sided tape to keep that dress in place. The dress looks like a sexy nightgown I'd be too self conscious to wear in my own home.

Stop whatever you are doing! Pause. And admire the beauty of Jolie and Pitt!
His mustache has got to go!

Eva always looks great (of course! We know she has a stylist who picks out her clothes) and Scarlett is desperately needing fashion help but the real victim here is Samuel L. Jackson! He looks like he should be laying on the couch channel surfing and eating pizza than attending a movie premiere. Nice pants! I think Mischa Barton wore a smiliar skirt a few weeks ago.

Speaking of laying around... Jessica Simpson is an sartorial oxymoron. On one hand, she says, "I don't care how I look." Baggy sweats, an old shirt and no makeup make her look like she could be headed straight towards cleaning the bathroom and mopping the floors. But her giant designer bag lets us know she's too good for cleaning even if she is dressed like a housewife. (and I speak from experience on what housewives wear)

Cate Blanchett's slip is hanging out. Ooops, its not her slip. Who dressed this poor woman?
This glittery confection wouldnt be so bad if the hips didn't jut out like a lampshade. At least she didn't need Spanx under the dress. Such a gorgeous woman, that dress is atrocious.

Please, please eat! I know the Rachel Zoe Project was renewed for another season, that's if she doens't drop from malnutrition!

Mariah Carey looks a little puffy. I think she might be pregnant even though she denies it up and down on Hello Kitty's life.

Heidi Klum dresses just right for a day walking around the streets with her kids and team of nannies. I love how she's never alone with her children. She has tons of backup at all times.
Even on the streets with the wind blowing Gisele looks gorgeous!
I have nothing bad to say about Jessica Biel. She looks normal.

Not looking normal, Pamela Anderson. She's rocking the chola brow.

Forgetting her pants, Pamela Anderson. I've always had a soft spot in my cold heart for Pam. She did an interview with me when her book came out and she was so kind. Recently I read a "blind" item about a star who fell into bad times and was using heroin...I hope it's not Pamela! I want to wrap her in something warm, wipe the makeup off her face and give her some hot tea. And pants.

Wal Mart

I go to WalMart once a year. It's usually around Halloween and I don't want to spend a lot on the kids costumes. I've never been a huge WalMart fan, I don't know why. I'm more of a Target girl. But the other day my friend was wearing a cute skirt and leg warmers and she told me it came from WalMart. Last week, I was paging through a magazine at the doctors office and there was a whole fashion spread that included items from the store. Hmmmmm.

I spend money on good sneakers or boots but for my every day clothing, I shop on the scent of a trail that leads me to cheap clothes. I always head first to the clearance racks and see what I can find on the cheap.

When you want to incorporate trendy items into your wardrobe, its best to shop at places like Forever21, WalMart, Ross, Target, Kohls (they have great 70% off racks) etc. What's trendy and hip now won't be in a year or two. Above are a few of the items I found on the WalMart site. These are things I'd wear. With money so tight for everyone, it's a challenge to dress nicely without spending a small fortune. Most of the things featured are under $15.

Lancome, What I'm Loving Now...

Here is my new must have product. Everyone needs this! I'm so glad that there's a eye cream with a high spf, this one contains a 28! Bienfait Multi-Vital Eye moisturizing treatment nourishes, hydrates and protects the eye area. I love it. I apply it immediately after applying my primer/moisturizer and foundation. I dab it along my under eye area and where I've been noticing pesky fine lines. Sometimes I reapply throughout the day. It contains vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids which our eye area needs. Its good to get into the habit of using a good eye cream on a daily basis! Also noteworthy is the Absolute Eye Premium.

Wild yam, soy, sea algae and barley are just a few of the ingredients in this eye smoothing product. It contains "Pro-Xylane™, a patented scientific breakthrough: helps restore essential moisture deep in skin’s surface." If I am going to be home and not in the sun, I will dot this around my eye area using a liberal amount. It makes my eyes look more alert and it even appears like I've gotten 8 hours of sleep!

The Courbe Virtuose mascara won an award from Allure magazine! Its that good. I don't like to curl my eyelashes, always fearful that I'm going to accidentally rip them out. And I don't have many to spare. So when a curling mascara comes along like this one, I'm very happy! The brush gently swoops the lashes upward where they stay, imparting color on each lash along the way. You can swipe your lashes once for a decent coat of color, or apply several coats for additional thickness. I applied this yesterday morning and by last night not a smudge, flake or smear in sight.

If you haven't tried Juicy Tubes before, then what are you waiting for? This is a favorite of every gloss loving girl. High shine, not sticky or tacky and sheer color make this a classic! Strawberry Sorbet is my go to gloss for day while Creme de Cassis revs it up a notch for evening glamour. The Chic Delights collection feature flavors from a French pâtisserie ...these carry a heavenly scent while making your mouth look ultra kissable. Side note, when Juicy Tubes first came out, I high tailed it to Macys to buy a tube. I carried that tube everywhere with me even when it was basically empty. I will share anything with my friends but this I was hesitant to hand over.
Along with my Strawberry Sorbet gloss, I wear this, L'Absolu Rouge in the shade of Fleur Impressioniste. I love the colors together which result in a shiny pink. This lipstick not only hydrates but contains an spf 12 to protect lips from the harmful rays of the sun. Every cosmetics company should put some sun protection in their products! This soft, creamy lipstick makes lips look full and smooth.

Color Fever Gloss gives your lips high, ultra, amazing shine. Talk about a dramatic mouth! For me, this one is for when I want to impart high drama and glamour. I tried the shade of Black Cherry which is darker than what I normally wear, that's why its used for nights on the town along with my glittery eye shadow. You probably know that a high shine lip gloss makes the mouth appear fuller, right? Just take a peek at all the glorious shades here!

SkinCeuticals

Here's something I've been using at night. I find that this is a tried and true product that delivers great results and is worth the money. SkinCeuticals Retinol 1.0 and Retinol 0.5. Here's what the fine folks at SkinCeuticals say:

Our retinol products help stimulate cell regeneration and build collagen to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots from both photo- and intrinsic- aging. Additionally, they help minimize the appearance of pore size, while correcting blemishes and blotchiness often associated with problematic skin.

My skin tends to have an oily t-zone with large pores ( I know, with my frizzy hair- I'm truly blessed) and I feel that my face doesnt look smooth, rather in the t-zone its got a pebbly texture. The SkinCeuticals Retinol smooths the texture of my skin and I feel like it almost resurfaces it. After one or two nights of using this, I see an improvement. That's enough to keep me coming back for more. This product will not clog pores and you do not need an additional moisturizer. I do however, pile on the eye cream because you probably shouldnt go near your sensitive eye area with the Retinol.

I can't recommend these products- the Retinol 0.5 (start here to get your skin used to the product) and the Retinol 1.0- enough. Click here for more information!

Bath and Body Works

Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin conjures up apple cider, pumpkin bread, falling leaves and smoke billowing from the chiminey on a chilly night. The scent reminds me of living in New Jersey and the weather turning into winter when we wore boots and jackets and kept warm by wearing socks to bed. Its a sweet, comforting scent. Of course the lotion moisturizes and keeps your skin soft. This new Bath and Body Works scent, Vanilla Noir is so amazing that my daughter hijacked it from my bathroom and took it as her own. I keep asking, "Why do you smell so good?" I found the answer in her room- its the Vanilla Noir Shower gel and body lotion!
This is the newest fragrance at Bath and Body Works. Its a blend of vanilla bean, black amber and spices, the result is a sensual, warm scent. Vanilla suits everyone, its a universal scent and I don't know of anyone who doesn't love it. You can find Vanilla Noir at Bath and Body Works or you can buy online. And I didn't realize just how many great fragrances Bath and Body Works offers, take a look. My favorites are usually florals or very clean scents like Cotton
Here's something I need for every bathroom in the house!

Christina Aguilera INSPIRE perfum

I never get excited when a celebrity comes out with a fragrance. There's a certain someone who came out with a line of cosmetics, including perfumes, which all smelled like day old cupcakes. It was so nauseatingly sweet that I needed to be resuscitated after falling into a sugar coma from sampling the scent. I'm often turned off from the ads for these celebrity perfumes too. So when I got the chance to try Christina Aguilera's perfume, Inspire, I didn't have high expectations.

After wearing it, I like it. I give it two snaps up in a circle. In a pretty bottle that would look lovely on anyone's dresser, this girly perfume features top notes of mango, freesia and citrus, heart notes are tuber-rose, rose and frangipangi. Dry down is orange, musk and sandalwood.
The notes all blend together beautifully and the scent is subtle. Its not a hit- you-over- the- head kind of fragrance, thank goodness. Its definitely feminine which means its ideal for this ultra-girly girl!

Trying to have perfect skin..and getting rid of pores!

Cargo Blu Ray Mattifier
Prescriptives Flawless Skin
Oil Control moisturizer
In my quest to erase my man-hole sized pores, I've tried every lotion, potion, cream, powder, acne control cream, clay mask, pore strips, straight up alcohol and everything in between. Lately my quest has been to find a good moisturizer and foundation with sunscreen that won't settle into my pores and make it appear that I need an excavation crew to clear out my clogged pores.

There are some really awesome foundations out there and I've tried lots of good tinted moisturizers too. But nothing that's the magic combo...nothing that I was really thrilled with. Until recently. Let me share my discovery with you. I apply the Prescriptives oil control moisturizer and let it sink in. I pat on my eye cream and over that, gently blend Touche Eclat by Yves St. Laurent-to brighten my eye area. Next I dot on the Prescriptives Flawless Skin which is a superb foundation. I blend it well. Then I apply my blush, lately I've been using a blush-bronzer combo by Benefit called Dallas. I love the shade. Atop this, I add a little of the Cargo Blue Ray Mattifier. At 7am I was at a soccer game sitting in the sun for hours. When I came home, I was thrilled to see that my face still looked presentable, meaning no one would vomit upon seeing my pores, and I was so happy.

Clinique has a great pore product that covers the large pores with a silky-putty type product. You can also set your makeup with something called Model in a Bottle which I love. I hope they develop a version with an spf in it, that would be perfection. Every day I apply sunscreen to my hands, neck and chest to ward off evil sunspots and wrinkles.

I'm about to start using Frownies because these wrinkles that I do have are really pissing me off! Oh the worrying, primping and preening and scrubbing and exfoliating and everything we do to look pretty. ..never ends does it!?

Daily Dollfaces

Oh how I want Cindy Crawford to cut her sons hair. When my son had longish hair, I had to smooth it down and blow dry it every day. What a pain! Although her son probably has his own stylist, right? Cindy's kids are so beautiful. They got the best of both parents features. We'll see how the Jolie-Pitt kids turn out but for now, I think these two are the most gorgeous celeb kids under age ten.

Smooth hair, nice skin, gorgeous color of blue. All in all, Lucy Liu looks amazing. But that long baguette shaped purse has got to go!

I don't know what Brandy's been doing lately but it hasn't been shopping for jeans, I'll tell you that much. Its like a tiger clawed her pants and left almost nothing. At this point, call it day and cut them into shorts.

I really loathe getting older and having it show on my face. Skin gets droopy, more fine lines crop up, your face starts looking worn. That's why I am an avid sunscreen and moisturizer girl. I hope to never go overboard on whatever it is Priscilla Presley has done to her poor abused face. Surgery, injections, nips, tucks, tweaks, stop the madness!

How nice that Josh Brolin can take the stop to shake hands with a fan. But the lady in blue is NOT amused. The look on her face says it all.

Well, she knows how to strike a pose. Christina Aguilera cut her bangs wayyyy short. I'd cry if my bangs looked like that. It works on her though. I wonder if she's reinventing herself yet again? I really love Sandra Oh's dress. I love the shoes. But not together. I would have gone with a black shoe instead of navy blue. Jason Bateman didn't get the memo about actually dressing up for the event. And that doesn't mean throw on a blazer with your jeans.

Channeling Victoria Stillwell's hair style, Jessica Alba glams it up in red satin.

Wow, Kate Winslet got a spray tan and don't try to deny it! She's glowing. I always thought she was beautiful. That dress is really sexy, I'd have to wrap my body like a mummy to look good in such a figure grabbing dress. Head to toe Spanx for sure! A push up bra and those chicken cutlet things too.

These three again! They are out promoting the movie The Spirit. I saw a clip of it and I wasn't impressed. When I went to see Twilight, the movie previews were all for horror movies and if its one genre of film I refuse to watch its horror. I should have used my time wisely and bought some buttered popcorn.
Anyway, lets address Scarlett's choice of clothing- that skirt looks like wallpaper. Who picks her clothes? She better get Rachel Zoe on the phone stat.

I haven't seen my real haircolor since I was fourteen. I bought a box of dye after someone made fun of my hair and never saw that gray-blonde-brown shade on my head again. Until this photo of Alicia Silverstone. If I had to wager a guess, I'd say hers is my real hair color. I like Alicia, she hasn't been around much.
Now here's the color I've been dying to try. I'll have to order a wig or something because I don't think Im that brave to have my hairdresser put red dye on my blonde locks. But it works for young Evan Rachel Wood. She's gotten rid of that all black goth look and is emerging from the weird clutches of Marilyn Manson.

Nicole Kidman is making a face- I think she's trying to smile but all the Juvaderm and Botox won't allow her muscles to form a grin. Also, with the sheer top we can totally see her bra. I think this calls for an all black corset. The shoes might be silver but they photograph white. And I find it might coincidental that Hugh Jackman was the sexiest man according to People and his movie just opened...hmmmm.

Let this picture put a smile on your face. Gary Coleman in a snowsuit and boots headed to court. The plaid shirt, the cowboy hat... we'd never see Webster in that get up!

Frizz Ease, anyone? Emmy Rossum's hair is out of control!

Kerastase, not just for celebs!

Every single time I read my fashion and beauty magazines, guaranteed some celebrity is going to talk about their love for Kerastase hair products. Naturally! Kerastase is constantly winning awards and being written up in magazines and is a favorite brand of many stylists. Why? Because its just that spectacular.

This morning my hair turned out great...yes, I had used the Volumactive products. Some people (my husband) says you can't tell the difference between brands. Yes you can. My hair does not feel like wet seaweed on my head after using Kerastase. I admit to thinking that the Volumactive line might dry my hair out a wee bit because sometimes in order to get big hair, you have to use a lot of product which ends up drying out the hair. But no! My hair is full and soft and moisturized. There's a shampoo, conditioner, spray and mousse in this line and when used together, hair turns out beautifully.

Bain Oleo Relax shampoo is for dry hair like mine, it lathers up well and rinses completely leaving your hair in better condition instantly. The Masque Oleo Relax is a daily treatment/conditioner that nurtures and moisturizes parched hair. I can feel such a difference when I use a good conditioner. Last step is the leave in smoothing serum for dry hair, called Serum Oleo Relax and it smells like roses. I feel that this line is very gentle on hair that is color treated. Also ideal for hair that may not be in the best of shape because of coloring and heat styling.

Whether your hair is color treated, dry, frizzy, thin, lackluster or all of the above, it would be beneficial to check out the Ciment Thermique. It's formulated for heat styling and will protect the hair from blasts of heat. Its a reconstructing cream for thermally treated hair. If you blow dry or use a curling iron or flatiron, this product is a must have!

You can view all the products and different lines on the Kerastase website.

Shu Uemura Holiday 2008

Introducing the Shu Uemura Holiday Collection 2008 by Mika Ninagawa. Mika is an acclaimed Japanese photographer in case you don't recognize the name. The collection is both dreamy and vibrant with bold colors and fancy packaging.
The three lipsticks in the collection are lovely colors for all shades of skin...Petal Pink Beige, Petal Orange Biege *my favorite- its hard to find the ideal nude-orange color but this one comes close* and Petal Brown Beige. Creamy lip colors that look so polished with...
..the lipgloss Mini Trio. Look at the bold colors! Don't fear, they are sheer. I love applying a bright gloss like these over lipstick. Delicious Rose is pictured above. Also available is Seductive Gerbera, which features three neutral glosses in a gorgeous case just like the one pictured. What a great gift for the makeup lover in your life.
I'm leaving for vacation soon and taking this palette with me for sure. The brown all the way on the right side is an eyeliner. Just look at the colors, would you? They are all usable. Ill wear the browns during the day and pump up the volume on the glamour quotient with the deep purple and blue. Confession! I'm wearing the blue right now and loving it. I can't stop staring at myself in the mirror. I'm kidding.
I don't have a cool iMac laptop to bring along to update my sites--- but I do have the Secret Luscious Rose eye shadow set and that makes me smile.

Also available which I don't have pictured is the Nail Enamel. The colors are Sparkling Garnet Aquarium, a deep sexy red with a shimmer and Tanzanite Aquarium, deep purple with silver glitter. Mika's photo's of underwater sea life inspire the packaging while the nail colors reflect the hues of exotic ocean life. I know, I've snorkled and I've witnessed the amazing sea creatures. Plus, I've been to Sea World.

This is my first foray into Shu Uemura. If there is a brand that I've been dying to try, this is it. And I love it!! There's still about fifty more items I want to try. Check out the false lashes. For more, click here.
